Death of an Artist Collection
When You See Yourself In The Words Of Others
Death of an Artist
My favorite part of this image is the way the image of the pigeon reinforces the title of the painting. I also allowed a piece of paper to react to the paint. It was purposefully allowed to curl. I liked the way it picked up the paint. I also left this so you can see how hard the paper in these pieces fights against laying flat. EVERY piece of paper in this show of over 50 images fought against me. Think of how many pieces of paper you have seen in this show and think of the amount of time and effort it took to work with the paper. Abstract artists do not simply throw paint. There are messages, materials, and multiple different elements to contend with. Yes, amateur artists can take up abstract art quickly, but truly forming an image, understanding colour, and materials is not simple. Getting the paint to overlap embedded paper, and keeping images clean as the paint dries is very complicated. AND then there is the message and composition.
