Trying to Hold Onto Something That Let Go of You a Long Time Ago
Death of an Artist
The image is a mixture of youth, pop references, sports, and figures in business attire doing non-business related activities. It reflects the human experience of growing and aging while making a life. This is representative of the artist's reflection on desire, building, and allowing ourselves to remember too fondly and regret or fight against letting go of a rose-colored past. The shredded paper was a tool used to control the artist's reflection. It represents our obligations/barriers and was used to reduce the space available to collage images, forcing the artist to work with the constraints they created to simulate our individual life goals versus the path our lives take that is sometimes beyond our control. It raises the questions of choice and how we react. The Stoics would counsel that we are only responsible for what we can control and our ultimate success is based on our ability to focus on that which is up to us, and not get anxious over that which we cannot control.
