I Was Struck By The Exhaustion Of Being Useful, Of Having An Abundance Of Utility

This is one of the only mainly abstract pieces in this size. The title appears in the form of a handwritten note. It is the closest true representation to the artist's previous series. The note was a handwritten note that appeared in a notebook from the first week the artist was devising the theme. Before Death of an Artist existed, this note was the first insight into the state-of-mind of the artist.

Having just left his stable job and feeling raw and exhausted from decades of steady and meaningful work, this was the first appearance of reflection. In some ways this image is slightly unresolved for the artist. It is unresolved because this current series has higher concentrations of pure colour with more minimal use of white. Although the artist considered adding or adjusting sections of this piece, he determined that this conflicted feeling of this piece being more an echo from previous shows, that echo or slight feeling of being "unresolved" is actually why he decided to leave it. It is a true reflection of the title.
Follow along as each new piece comes to life, leading up to the full reveal at the Exhibition on Saturday, June 7, 2025 in Calgary.
