Death of an Artist Collection
I Have Always Found The Palette More Interesting Than The Painting
Death of an Artist
Here's my copy edited version: The title is a reference to the way the artist lives. A blank canvas, the creation of complex plans, and the daily grind of working towards a goal is a place of comfort. Picasso once said "there is nothing worse than a brilliant beginning". This is true for the artist, but it is also in the beginning where the most creativity is - as the process of achieving the goal moves forward and it becomes more about process than about creating, the artist finds himself becoming distracted and bored. There are several hidden and clear messages in the abstract that relate to the theme. The majority of debris used in this series represents barriers to our success or the old narratives, issues, and trauma we continue to carry with us instead of confronting - we store. The debris are items from junk drawers in the artist's home. Things kept for years and never used.
